A Queensland grandmother has claimed a $10 million prize in last night’s Powerball draw.
The Mackay woman held the only division one winning entry nationally in Powerball draw 1469 held on Thursday.
The winning woman took a little longer to discover her newfound fortune after missing multiple calls from The Lott earlier on Friday morning.
‘Oh my god, I am shaking,’ she said, ‘I can’t believe it, I don’t know what to say
‘I saw the missed calls when I woke up this morning, but I thought it was a scam, so I decided to leave it.
‘It wasn’t until I listened to the voicemail from you that I knew it wasn’t a scam and something was up. ‘
She said the winnings would help her settle the mortgage in full, pay off bills and buy a new car.
‘I’d love to buy a Honda or Toyota with a bull bar because we really need one where we live. I’ll also slowly start to cut down my hours at work and eventually retire.
‘It will give me more time to spend with my grandchildren.
‘I nearly didn’t buy the ticket because I was in a rush on the way to work but I’m so glad I did.’
The winning numbers in were 17, 20, 9, 12, 19, 22 and 16. The Powerball number was 9.
Of the 20 Powerball division one winning entries in 2023, eight landed in New South Wales, seven in Victoria, two each in South Australia and Western Australia, and one in Queensland.
