Aussie mountains ‘snap frozen’ to coldest in years

Must read

Australia’s alpine regions were “snap frozen” yesterday, as a polar blast swept Australia’s south-east.

Weatherzone reported that Mount Hotham in Victoria dropped to -8.3 degrees – the lowest temperature in the state since 2018.

In New South Wales, Khancoban’s low of -3.8 degrees was also the site’s equal coldest in the past six years.

Temperatures dropped to -9 at Thredbo, -8.9 at Cooma Airport, and -8.1 at Perisher Valley, Weatherzone said.

Conditions were too dry for natural snow, but well suited to artificial snowmaking as the winter solstice looms.

Some natural snow is forecast for the alpine regions between now and Saturday as the cold air commingles with some moisture.

Weatherzone forecast falls of five to 10cm at some resorts.
