Australian basketballer Liz Cambage has debuted an unrecognisable new look, leaving her Instagram fans floored by the transformation.

The four-time WNBA All-Star, who currently plays for Sichuan Yuanda in the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association, shared a series of stunning photos to her 1.2 million Instagram followers on Wednesday morning (AEST), in what was a collaboration with fashion designer Mowalola Ogunlesi.

“In @mowalola we trust,” she captioned the post.

Mowalola quickly replied: “My one and only.”

The two-time Olympian’s fans could hardly recognise her in the amazing shoot.

“Completely different person in these photos,” one said.

“I didn’t recognise you,” another added.

A third said: “Wow you don’t look like you.”

Someone else asked: “Wow, is that you? What a beautiful metamorphose!”

Cambage has been a polarising figure in Australian basketball since rising to prominence in the late 2000s.

She represented Australia at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games, but pulled out of Tokyo 2020 (which happened in 2021) citing mental health issues.

Her career with the Opals was effectively ended when vision of a physical altercation from 2021 later emerged.

In the vision, the Aussie centre elbowed a Nigerian player in a pre-Olympics scrimmage before the Tokyo Games in 2021.

She then hit another opponent in a seperate incident.

That sparked retaliation towards Cambage when she was on the bench. She was attacked from behind after a Nigerian player charged her.

Cambage also denied using a racial slur towards the Nigerian players.

The incident returned to the spotlight last year after Cambage made the surprise claim that she wanted to switch allegiances and play for Nigeria at this year’s Paris Olympics.

But that was quickly shot down and she won’t be representing either nation at next month’s Olympics.
