Insurance giants AXA and Generali have joined the Insurance Development Forum (IDF), an initiative aimed at supporting sustainable development in emerging countries.
Founded in 2013, the IDF was officially launched at the COP21 Climate Summit in Paris. The initiative brings together key players in the insurance sector, including insurers, reinsurers, investors and development organizations. It is mainly dedicated to catalyzing the crucial role of insurance in financing sustainable development, particularly in view of the growing risks associated with natural disasters and economic shocks.
AXA and Generali’s involvement marks an important step towards reinforcing the insurance industry’s commitment to sustainable development in emerging countries. Their expertise and specialized resources are expected to further boost the IDF’s efforts. Zurich, Ageas and China Re have been IDF members since 2019.
