Must read

A Perth cafe popular for its family and dog-friendly area has announced it will be closing its doors after almost eight years.

Slate Cafe, about half an hour’s drive north-east from Perth’s CBD, shared the news that it was closing due to the “rising operational costs “ that have made it “very challenging for us to continue operating”.

The Bennett Springs cafe, which boasts being Perth’s largest dog-friendly cafe, revealed the news to its 17k followers in an emotional Facebook post.

“It is with very heavy hearts that we announce that Slate Cafe will be closing its doors for good on Sunday, 23rd June 2024,” the post read.

“The rising operational costs has made it very challenging for us to continue operating in this current climate, and with all our increasing commitments elsewhere, we have been unable to give Slate Cafe the time and attention it deserves.

“We want to take this moment express our deepest gratitude to all of our customers who have supported us over the years, from the very first day we opened in October 2016, through the road closures, covid and everything else in between!
