Beloved Perth pub announces shock closure after nine years

Must read

An iconic pub that is home to one of Perth’s best craft beer selections has announced it will be closing its doors.

The Dutch Trading Co, located in Victoria Park, revealed August 11 will be its final day of service after nine years.

While we don’t know exactly what’s in store for the pub’s future, owner Joel Beresford revealed the venue will be undergoing renovations to become “something else” and an anticipated re-opening in November.

“We will be finishing up as DTC on Sunday 11th of August as the Dutch Trading Co. Doors will close and renovations commence for the next chapter of 243 Albany Highway, with an anticipated re-opening in November … as something else!”He explained in a post on Facebook.

“When we realised our lease only had one year left to go, it made us pause and ask a deeper question: Do we keep going as The Dutch Trading Co?

“Actually, asking the question was the answer. We’ve done a lot. We’ve done it big and we’ve done it for a long time. And now we have an opportunity to complete this amazing project on our own terms.”

The popular pub opened in June 2015 and collected numerous awards over the years, including Beer & Brewer’s Best Beer Venue.

Speaking to The Crafty Pint, Beresford revealed the venue would be having a “full refit and complete makeover, including the name” and the new place will still keep some of the niche beer themes with a more extensive offering of wine and cocktails.

The beloved pub’s announcement was flooded with more than a hundred comments from customers who were sad to hear of the unexpected closure.

“End of an era thanks for all the good times, and all the best with what’s coming next!” one customer wrote.

Another said: “Have dearly loved the DTC. WELL DONE!! And thank you. Excited about the new chapter for you and will continue our patronage for sure!!”

“Oh my dear god! DTC a name that will never be forgotten like all the old people talking about places I’ve never heard of back in their day. Congrats and good luck with the renos!” a third commented.

Beresford encouraged customers to keep an eye out on their socials for any updates.
