Beloved teen football player dies in North Lake crash

A beloved football player at the South Fremantle Football Club has been named as the 18-year-old who died in a fatal crash on Saturday night, which has left six other people in hospital.

Nick Campo was a rear passenger in a white Toyota Hilux ute when it crashed and rolled on Farrington Road in North Lake while heading southeast before colliding with a black Jeep Patriot SUV, which was travelling west.

The 17-year-old male driver and three other male passengers in the Toyota — one aged 17 and two aged 18 — were rushed to Royal Perth Hospital by St John WA for treatment of various injuries.

Both 18-year-olds also played for South Fremantle and remained in hospital on Sunday. Tyler Rowe was in emergency surgery while Josh Jackson was in Fiona Stanley Hospital with a broken arm and bruising.

The 26-year-old male driver and 27-year-old female passenger of the Jeep were taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital by St John WA with minor injuries.

In a heartbreaking tribute, Nick Campo’s parents said their lives had been “ripped apart” by the news.
