Blackpink singer Jennie Kim has apologized after she received backlash for a video clip that showed her smoking a vape indoors.
The 28-year-old South Korean performer — who starred in a Calvin Klein ad earlier this year — issued the apology via her Odd Atelier record label, also known as OA.
‘We sincerely apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable with Jennie’s behavior in the content released on the 2nd,’ the statement read, referencing a YouTube vlog posted on Jennie’s channel earlier this month.
In the clip, the pop star sat in a chair while getting her hair and makeup done for a Jacquemus fashion show in Italy.
It continued: ‘Jennie acknowledges and deeply regrets her mistakes of vaping indoors and causing inconvenience to the staff.’
In the snippet from the nine-minute video, called A Moment in Capri with Jennie, the star put the pen to her mouth and blew out vapor moments later.
OA also made clear that the music artist personally apologized to staffers and vowed to project ‘a more mature and better image in the future.’
Many fans took to Jennie’s Instagram comments to defend her following the criticism.
‘pls, don’t listen anyone, you are queen and WE WILL SUPPORT YOU FOREVER!’ one person wrote under her latest post.
Someone else added, ‘I still love you Nini. We learn from the mistakes we make. Hopefully in the future we can be more careful and better. It’s ok.
‘THANK YOU FOR ACKNOWLEDGING YOUR MISTAKE AND FOR SINCERELY APOLOGIZING TO YOUR STAFF AND THE PUBLIC. Love You To The Moon.’
There was also a note to the songstress that read, ‘you are not wrong and you don’t need to say sorry to anybody! just be yourself!’
One supporter reasoned: ‘at least vape smoke smells good. what’s the big deal?’
Last December Kim announced the launch of her music label ahead of the New Year.
She wrote in an Instagram Story: ‘This year was filled with many accomplishments, and I’m so thankful for all the love I’ve received.
‘I’m also excited about what’s to come, as I start my solo journey in 2024 with a company that I have established called OA. Please show lots of love for my new start with OA and of course, Blackpink.’
On the label’s Instagram account, a message read: ‘OA, which stands for ODD ATELIER, is a space that aims to create new things that attract attention in a different way from what is usual or expected. It is a label founded by artist JENNIE in November 2023.’
