Boomers whack ‘absolute joke’ Olympics jersey

Must read

Boomers player Josh Giddey branded the jersey he and his teammates will wear at the Paris Olympics an “absolute joke” after images circulated online.

The jersey features an Indigenous design by Paul Fleming, dubbed “Walking Together” on the side panels.

David Bosun’s artwork “Ngalmun Danalaig” or “Our Way of Life” features on the spine of the jersey.

However, it would appear the horizontal chevrons have drawn the ire of current players and former Boomers.

The chevron design, which was initially revealed in March, is shared across the various Australian teams competing in France.

Different sports will carry a variation of the look. The Matildas, for example, will have a grey version of the chevron design.

Josh Giddey wrote “absolute joke” while Jock Landale said: “Looks like we are off to throw javelin”.

Former Boomers player and controversy king Andrew Bogut said “AOC had Stevie Wonder do the uniforms”.

Matthew Adekponya weighed in too, “Boys about to compete in decathlon”.

Giddey’s former manager Daniel Moldovan gave a terse assessment on social media.

“Let’s just call a spade a spade. This is a f—— DISGRACE. Yet another embarrassment for a team full of NBA players at the peak of their sport,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

“Our guys are going to be dressed like marathon runners.

“If the old adage of “Look good feel good” has a modicum of truth to it, then our guys are going to be feeling like trash.”

The Boomers will begin their Olympics campaign on July 27 against a yet-to-be-confirmed opponent.
