Brave Kate’s touching tribute to Diana during Trooping the Colour

Must read

Kate, Princess of Wales, has paid tribute to the late Princess Diana at Saturday’s Trooping the Colour, stepping out in an outfit seemingly inspired by Lady Di during a tour of Saudi Arabia in the 80s.

The princess attended the annual military parade alongside her husband Prince William and their three children, as well as King Charles and Queen Camilla, which was held to mark the official birthday of the king.

It was Kate’s first public appearance since December after being diagnosed with cancer.

For the event, Kate donned a white Jenny Packham dress with black detailing and a black and white striped bow at the collar.

The outfit appears to be a nod to Princess Diana, who wore a black and white dress with a striped bow at the waist during a 1986 royal tour to Saudi Arabia with her then husband King Charles.

Attending a state banquet in Riydah, the country’s capital, the princess wore the Emmanuel evening dress with the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara.

Princess Kate completed her Trooping the Colour look with a wide brimmed black and white hat by Philip Treacy and white Jimmy Choo heels.

The 42-year-old spent two weeks in hospital in January after she underwent major abdominal surgery.

Two months later, she announced in a video message that tests had revealed the presence of cancer and she was receiving preventative chemotherapy.

She is still undergoing treatment, but her improved health meant she was able to appear in public for the first time since December.

In a rare personal written message on Friday, she said she was making good progress but was “not out of the woods”.

Kate said she had been “blown away” by thousands of kind messages from across the globe, which had made a world of difference to her and William.

“I am making good progress but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days,” she said.

Her illness has coincided with that of Charles, 75, who has also been undergoing treatment for cancer.

He returned to public duties in April, and has remained busy, although his daily commitments are being limited to minimise risks to his recovery.

Kate’s office, Kensington Palace, has declined to give any details about the type of cancer or about her treatment, other than to say the preventative chemotherapy had begun in February.
