Breaking: RB announce first F1 driver for 2025

Must read

RB has confirmed it has activated an option in its contract with Yuki Tsunoda to extend the Japanese driver’s deal until the end of 2025 Formula 1 season.

Tsunoda has impressed during the opening eight rounds of the 2024 F1 campaign, resulting in RB opting to take up its option to keep him in place for another year.

An announcement was made by the Red Bull junior team 30 minutes prior to qualifying for the 2024 F1 Canadian Grand Prix.

The Japanese driver made his F1 debut for RB in 2021 when the outfit was known as AlphaTauri.

Despite some impressive results, Tsunoda has been noted for his inconsistency and outbursts on the team radio during his tenure in the sport so far.

But RB has consistently praised the 24-year-old for his displays this year, which has seen him tally 19 points in the first eight rounds and out-performing team-mate Daniel Ricciardo at the majority of circuits.

With Tsunoda being retained for 2025, it means RB seemingly has a decision to make between Ricciardo and reserve driver Liam Lawson.

Lawson impressed the Faenza-based side in a five-race spell last season when he replaced Ricciardo whilst the experienced driver was injured.
