Bride and groom sparks fury over ‘aggressive’ dress code rule in wedding invitation

Have you ever seen a dress code as strict as this one?

A bride and groom have sparked fury over their “aggressive” dress code rule in their wedding invitation.

The invitation was re-shared in “That’s It, I’m wedding shaming” Facebook group, alongside the caption, “The attire RSVP really puts it over the top and over the edge of the cliff.”

The bride and groom also created a website for the wedding — with a Q&A section so their guests can be across everything.

Among the rules was the strict dress code — urging their guests they could only wear a black coloured cocktail attire.

“We would love to see our friends and family dressed up with us. We are requesting black cocktail clothing for our wedding. PLEASE ONLY WEAR BLACK COLOURED CLOTHING!” the couple said.

“Please avoid clothes including white which are reserved for the bride and groom. In addition to wearing black, please no jeans, shorts or athletic clothing.”

“Men please wear close-toed shoes for the ceremony and reception.”

If that wasn’t specific enough, the bride and groom also included a tick box for guests to confirm whether or not they will be attending the wedding in all black.

The first box guests could tick, read: “I’m wearing all black! No white undershirts for men, no white or coloured detailing for women, strictly all black clothing.”

The second box read: “I’m unsure about my outfit. I do not want to stick out and would like to ask more questions regarding what I plan to wear.”

The post garnered many comments — with many in disbelief over such a strict dress code.

“Nope that’s far too specific. No accent colours at all? And they’re SO ADAMANT! I love black clothes but take your aggressively goth demands elsewhere,” said one.

“I’m coming looking better than the bride over this,” added a second.

“I’d pass unless there was free booze,” said a third.

However, some suggested the bride and groom’s dress code was not as bad as everyone thought.

“Honestly, this is the easiest dress code ever compared to most we’ve seen and I’m surprised so many people apparently only have one black dress. Now, if it is in a place where it will be summer and they are outside then yes, that’s not okay. Otherwise people could get DRAMATIC with this and it would be so fun,” one said.

Meanwhile, many joked the dress coded reminded them of a funeral.

“I’m going to a wedding with this exact same dress code this summer. I’m wearing my ‘funeral’ dress so thanks for making me think of my dead grandma at your wedding I guess,” one said.

Another suggested: “Cool, so it’s either my funeral dress or my tour guide dress. My really old semi-formal dress is actually quite lovely but gasp, it has a little gold on it. I’d totally go around to people and go ‘funeral outfit?’ to start a convo too.”
