BMW has revealed its updated 2 Series coupe range with increased prices and fresh equipment.

The 2 Series line-up remains unchanged, kicking off with the 230i priced at $76,900 followed by the M240i ($99,900) and red hot M2 ($123,900, all before on-road costs).

The new prices represent a price rise of between $2200 and $3900 depending on the variant.

The most meaningful changes are for the M2 hero car.

It now makes 353kW and 600Nm from its 3.0-litre turbo-petrol six-cylinder engine, which is a jump of 15kW and 50Nm.

The bad news is this is only for examples fitted with an eight-speed auto. If you want to shift gears yourself torque remains the same at 550Nm but you do get the extra kW.

BMW has made alterations to the throttle response in selectable driving modes that help it accelerate quicker than before.

Both manual and auto versions are 0.1 seconds quicker to 100km/h, completing the benchmark sprint in 4.2 seconds and 4.0 seconds respectively.

Changes are more minor elsewhere.

A new flat-bottomed M leather-wrapped steering wheel is now standard and there is a choice of new light M alloy wheels, along with a redesigned instrument panel.

BMW has made a raft of minor tweaks to the styling and equipment of the 2 Series coupe, including synthetic leather seat upholstery, front seat heaters, tyre pressure monitor and improving the M Sport package.

M240i examples gain improved exterior highlights, M sport seats, a heated steering wheel and tyre pressure monitor.

Both use the same engine as before.

The 230i uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that’s good for 190kW and 400Nm and is matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels.

M240i buyers can expect a beefy 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine pumping out 285kW and 500Nm with an eight-speed auto driving all four wheels.
