Australian golfer and 2022 Open Champion Cameron Smith is one of the few golfers singing the praises of the greens at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina for this week’s US Open.
The course is notorious for its tough greens – which already have some golfers worried for the upcoming week.
Smith is not one of those, and in an interview with Golf Channel, he seemed ready and excited for the next four days.
‘Mate I love it. First of all it’s a lot of eye candy going on, it looks so sick,’ Smith told the network.
‘The greens are probably the best greens we’ve putted on – I would say close to ever Yeah the course is awesome, everything I hoped for.’

When asked about the test that Pinehurst will offer him, Smith seemed up to the task.
‘It’s just more challenging. It’s the US Open. I think it’s as different as it is to some of the US Open golf courses we play.
‘It is still a US Open. You still have to hit the fairway. A lot of centers of greens and a lot of two putting.
‘I think number one is just those misses, especially when you’re coming in out of this fescue grass. Where can you get it to and what’s going to give you best opportunity for a par and keeping the round going.’
Throughout the week, golf fans have been preparing themselves for low scoring rounds after feedback from those braving the course.
Last year’s US Open champion, Wyndham Clark called the greens ‘extremely fast’.
He added, ‘If they get any firmer and faster, the greens, I mean, they’d be borderline. They already are borderline.’
