‘Can’t wait’: Adelaide Strikers secure Chris Lynn for entire season in massive Big Bash boost

Must read

Chris Lynn, the leading run-scorer in Big Bash League history, has committed to the entire season with the Adelaide Strikers in a massive boost for the South Australian franchise.

The 34-year-old Queenslander, who represented Australia in four ODIs and 18 T20Is, has penned a one-year deal with the Adelaide-based franchise that crucially includes finals availability.

Following an 11-year tenure with the Brisbane Heat, Lynn joined the Strikers ahead of the 2022/23 season, smacking 720 runs at 48.00 with a strike rate of 150.00 in 18 matches since. He clobbered three fifties last summer, including an unbeaten 83 (42) during the New Year’s Eve clash against the Melbourne Stars at Adelaide Oval.

However, the powerful right-hander hasn’t been available for finals in the two previous editions of the BBL, leaving the tournament early to play for the Gulf Giants in the United Arab Emirates’ ILT20.

The Strikers sorely missed Lynn following his departure last summer, suffering a 54-run loss to eventual champions the Brisbane Heat in January’s must-win Challenger on the Gold Coast.

But after he wasn’t retained by the Giants in June, Lynn has signed on for the entirety of the 2024/25 season with the Strikers.

“I can’t wait to get back with the lads and play in front of our amazing Strikers fans at Adelaide Oval,” Lynn said in a statement.

“I’m confident we can progress even further this season.”

Lynn’s 3725 career runs remains a Big Bash record, while no player has come close to toppling his tally of 208 sixes.

“We’re thrilled to have Chris returning for a third season,” Strikers Interim General Manager Shaun Williams said in a statement.

“While his batting exploits speak for themselves, the experience and leadership he brings to our playing group and the assistance he provides for younger players as well as our coaching staff is equally invaluable.

“Chris is a box office attraction and is a vital part of a versatile and talented squad that we believe will again challenge for the title in BBL|14.”

The Strikers, who have not won a BBL title since 2018, get their campaign under on Tuesday, December 17, facing the Sydney Thunder at Canberra’s Manuka Oval.
