MALIBU Calif. — Two-time national champion Chloe Sotell signed her national letter of intent with the Pepperdine women’s basketball team on Monday.
Sotell is the first true freshman and the fourth newcomer in head coach Katie Faulkner‘s inaugural recruiting class. She will join Makena Mastora (Saint Mary’s), Malia Mastora (Cal State San Marcos) and Ornela Muca (California) who signed with Pepperdine earlier in the offseason. So far, all four of Faulkner’s signees have been guards.
A 6-foot guard from Stamford, Conn., Sotell played at Montverde Academy (Florida) from 2022-24, where she was a two-time national champion. This past season, she played alongside three ESPN top-100 recruits from the class of 2024 — including MaxPreps’ National Player of the Year Jaloni Cambridge — and helped the Eagles win their third-straight national title. In the Chipotle National Championship game against IMG Academy, Sotell chipped in six points, four rebounds, three steals and an assist in 27 minutes of action.
During her senior season, Sotell helped the Eagles go 24-4 and finish third in the final MaxPreps national rankings. On a roster featuring a plethora of future Power-4 players, Sotell was the team’s fourth-leading scorer at 6.5 points per game, tied for second on the team with 23 steals and connected on 37.4% (52-139) of her three-point attempts — good for third-best on the team.
Prior to playing at Montverde Academy, Sotell began her career at Stamford High School (Conn.), where she was a Connecticut all-state selection and a First Team All-FCIAC selection as a sophomore. In her final year at Stamford, Sotell led the Black Knights in scoring, assists and steals to help lead the team to the second round of the CIAC Class LL Girls Basketball Championships. Sotell also played club basketball for the Miami Suns and the Empire State Basketball Club.
