Collierville girls basketball hires Kendrick Watkins as coach from Rossville Christian Academy

Must read

Collierville High School has a new girls basketball coach.

Kendrick Watkins was named Lady Dragons’ coach on Friday, according to an announcement made on the school’s website. He comes to Collierville after serving as coach at Rossville Christian Academy, a job he took over in 2021.

He won two Midsouth Association of Independent Schools state championships with the Wolves.

“Coach Watkins’ vision and enthusiasm align perfectly with our commitment to excellence both on and off the court,” Collierville principal Roger Jones said in a statement. “We look forward to many exciting seasons ahead and the positive impact Coach Watkins will undoubtedly bring to our school community.”

Watkins — a two-sport athlete at Rainy River Community College — also coached at Riverside High School and Decatur County Middle School.

Watkins will replace Pattie Gardner, who was let go after the 2023-2024 season. Collierville did not retain either Gardner or boys basketball coach Shawn Taggart after the season. Gardner went 41-28 in two seasons at Collierville and won 25 games last season.
