“It’s with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of our much loved ‘Musty’, Nick Mustafa,” he said.
“The kindest, most loving and caring person you could meet and we were blessed to have you both play and be a part of our football family.
“Your engaging smile and beautiful hugs will be forever missed and your legacy will live on, mate.
“Thank you for the wonderful memories and our heartfelt condolences go out to all the family.
“I’ll miss you mate but our club will miss you more. You were one of the good guys.”
Mustafa played juniors at Doncaster and Warrandyte Doncaster Heights before arriving at Templestowe as a senior player.
He played eight games in the club’s reserves this year, lacing the boots up as recently as last Saturday week, before the King’s Birthday long weekend.
Mustafa was also a committed coach at the cricket club, where he is being remembered as the “king of the kids”.
His passing sparked an outpouring of emotion from the Templestowe and wider community.
“Absolutely the most genuine guy I have ever met,” Nicole Jennifer Muleta said.
“Thank you for everything you did for Violet and all the kids. Words cannot express how our hearts are broken. Sending all our love your family.
“You had a heart of gold and were a massive mentor to Violet and she just adored you like a big brother. Rest in peace, this is just not fair.”
Travis Wason added: “Such sad news to hear, my thoughts with Musti’s family, both here and overseas.
“Having coached him at footy and having him coach my son Hunter at cricket, I couldn’t be more impressed with how great a person he is, very thoughtful, caring and all about others.
“He was there at the juniors last Sunday watching Hunter’s footy game.
“A sad loss for the footy and cricket clubs, he had such a bright future ahead.
“(He) used to obliviously hit the ball too hard at catching practice for the kids or bowl too fast at them in the nets, but they’ll be better for it.
“You’ll be much missed by many, but especially your loving family. Rest easy my friend.”
Andrew Morrison said: “It’s just so hard news to take, taken far too early and had so many more lives to touch. Such a beautiful and caring young man.
“You overcame so many obstacles, Musty, and impacted so many lives. You will be sorely missed but never forgotten. Condolences to the Mustafa family xxx”
Jaron Mustafa added a response on behalf of Nick’s family.
“We would like to thank you for being a major part in Nick’s life. The club was his second family and we appreciate all the kind words, thoughts and support,” he said.
