Crime scene established after passerby finds bodies of man and woman on walking track

An investigation is underway after the bodies of a man and woman were discovered in south-west Victoria on Friday morning amid reports of a shooting. 

Victoria Police said in a statement a passerby came across the bodies on a walking track near Wreck Beach in Gellibrand Lower about 10.45am.

The walking track cuts through thick bushland down to the remote beach which is located about 230km from the Melbourne CBD.

Police have since cornered off the area and established a crime scene while officers work to establish the circumstances surrounding the pair’s death.

The Herald Sun reported a gun was believed to have been found at the scene.

The man and woman have not yet been formally identified. 

“At this early stage, police are not treating either death as suspicious,” police said in an updated statement on Friday afternoon.

“Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.”
