Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff among NFL elite in this category | Sporting News

Must read

There is no question that quarterback Jared Goff has elevated the Detroit Lions since coming over from the Los Angeles Rams. He’s been a huge part of the team’s resurgence from laughingstock to one of the best teams in the NFL.

Goff had arguably the best season of his career in 2023, with the veteran signal-caller finishing with a 67.3% completion rate, 4,575 passing yards and 30 touchdowns to 12 interceptions. The completion rate was the best of his career, and the yardage and touchdowns were the third- and second-most of his career, respectively.

One area in particular where the Lions quarterback thrived was in the quick passing game, where he scored the second-highest grade among all players at his position (min. 100 dropbacks), according to Pro Football Focus’ Jim Wyman.

Goff notched an 84.2 passing grade on throws under 2.5 seconds, second only to Miami Dolphins quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa (87.4). Goff didn’t fare as well when given more time to throw, as he didn’t crack the top 10 in throws over 2.5 seconds.

Being good in the quick passing game makes Goff a great fit in offensive coordinator Ben Johnson’s system, and it’s one of many reasons why Detroit has had an elite offense in recent years.

Goff has been having quite the offseason. First, he received a massive extension from the team, and then he recently got married in California. The only thing that could make it better is a Super Bowl win.
