‘Don’t bend your elbow’: Dale Steyn goes unrecognised… and is hilariously taught how to bowl

Must read

Talk about awkward!

Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn is in America as part of the commentary team for the T20 World Cup and decided to get involved in a street cricket set-up.

The only problem? The staff member he encountered was clearly oblivious to who he was giving tips as Steyne was reminded not to bend his elbow too much while bowling.

Of course, Steyne didn’t need to be reminded of that — he did take almost 700 international wickets in his career after all. But the South African legend was all class as he played along.

“Keep in mind to not bend your elbow,” the staff member said.

“It’s a swinging motion going forward… and if you want you can do a little skip.”

Steyn went on to hit the stumps with a full toss, to which the staff member said: “It should have bounced before it hit the ground”.

While the staff member may have not been familiar with Steyn’s standing in the sport, there is hope its showpiece T20 event — which is being played in both the United States and West Indies — can revive cricket’s popularity in America.

Only helping that cause was the United States’ stunning Super Over upset victory over Pakistan on Friday.
