Former Pakistan President Arif Alvi on Monday reacted to the reports surfacing that national cricket team head coach Gary Kirsten has said to the players that there is no unity in the team.

Alvi responding via Twitter, reacted with a pun on the situation. “For us in Pakistan there is an easy solution to this serious allegation. This is an attack on the solidarity & integrity of Pakistan. We have information from credible sources (cipher) that cannot be revealed that he is working under the direct influence of foreign interests against our ideology. The patron of the PCB has ordered immediate action that includes registration of FIRs in all the cricket playing centers of Pakistan and his name is put on the ECL,” Alvi wrote before clearing the air.

On Sunday, following the win against Ireland, skipper Babar Azam was also the centre of attention for his post-match comments. With questions raised against his captaincy, Babar said, “We win and lose as a team. You are pointing out that [I am] the captain, but I cannot play in every player’s place. There are 11 players, and each of them has a role. That’s why they came here to play the World Cup. I think we have not been able to play well as a team. We have to settle down and accept that we didn’t play well as a team.”

Festive offer

Despite finishing the tournament on consecutive wins, Pakistan were knocked out of the first round owing to defeats in their first two games – against USA and India.

Against Ireland, the team played their final group stage game against Ireland, with the fate of Group A already having been decided.

Chasing 107, Pakistan finished the game with three wickets in hand and seven balls to spare.
