Dr Mosley’s wife opens up after husband’s shock death

Must read

The wife of TV doctor Dr Micheal Mosley — who died unexpectedly while on holiday in Greece earlier this month — has opened up about what’s next after losing her husband.

Dr Claire Bailey was travelling with her husband on Symi island when he went for a walk on a 37C day and never returned.

A four-day search for the beloved UK television personality ended when his body was discovered, and CCTV footage from a beach club appeared to show him falling down a rocky slope nearby on June 5.

His backpack was found 6m up the hill from where his body was eventually located behind a fence. While foul play has been ruled out, Mosley’s exact cause of death remains unknown.

Bailey said she had received plenty of supportive messages following her husband’s death, and thanked the well-wishers on Instagram.

“Thank you all for your wonderfully supportive messages. The outpouring of love from so many people has meant a huge amount to me and my family,” she wrote on Saturday.

“I’m going to be quiet for a while. I’m sure you will understand. But I will be back here soon. I very much want to continue with the work that gave Michael and myself so much joy and such a sense of purpose.“Once more, thank you so much for respecting my family’s privacy so kindly. Michael was an amazing man. Thank you for seeing that too. We miss him so much.”

It comes after Bailey paid tribute to her late husband in a statement following his death.

“It’s devastating to have lost Michael, my wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband. We had an incredibly lucky life together. We loved each other very much and were so happy together,” she said.

“We’re taking comfort in the fact that he so very nearly made it.

“I feel so lucky to have our children and my amazing friends. Most of all, I feel so lucky to have had this life with Michael.”

She also thanked the volunteers who joined the search for Mosley.

“Some of these people on the island, who hadn’t even heard of Michael, worked from dawn ‘til dusk unasked,” Bailey previously said.

Bailey previously confirmed her husband took the wrong route on his hike and collapsed just short of reaching a marina in a place where his body “couldn’t easily be seen”.

Mosley was known for popularising a type of intermittent fasting known as the 5:2 diet, and authored a book on the Fast 800 diet which focuses on time-restricted eating for rapid weight loss.

He also featured in a number of successful UK documentary shows on Channel 4 and the BBC, including a Primetime Emmy Award-nominated BBC mini series called The Human Face, which examined the science behind facial beauty, expression and fame.

The father of four also deliberately infested himself with parasites to learn more about them for BBC’s 2014 program Infested! Living with Parasites.

“Michael was an adventurous man, it’s part of what made him so special,” Bailey said in the tribute to her late-husband earlier this month.
