DT Infrastructure has been awarded a $50 million state government contract to build a railcar workshop in Perth’s far north.
The Australian subsidiary of Malaysian infrastructure firm Gamuda Berhad was on Tuesday confirmed by the Public Transport Authority as head contractor on the Metronet project which will link into the Clarkson line at Nowergup, east of Butler.
Tender documents reveal the workshop is needed to maintain and fit new train control equipment to B and C series rolling stock.
Gamuda acquired Downer’s transport projects arm for $212 million last year and absorbed the brand into its DT Infrastructure company.
The company in April last year was selected as preferred proponent as part of an alliance with Alstom for the $577 million high capacity signalling program’s train control and signalling contract.
The project is replacing outdated technology to improve efficiency on the network.
DT is also part of the NEWest Alliance which built the $1.08 billion Yanchep extension and is building the $1.35 billion Thornlie-Cockburn link.
The price of both builds has blown out substantially due to scope changes and increasing construction costs.
The Yanchep line is due to open in July.
