Emma Raducanu battled her way through illness and uncomfortably blustery conditions to book her place in the quarter-finals of the Rothesay Open in Nottingham, overcoming Daria Snigur, the world No 127 from Ukraine, 6-2, 6-2 in only 79 minutes.
Raducanu, the world No209, coughed and spluttered her way through much of the contest, but said that she was merely suffering from the type of low-level illness familiar to many people at this stage of a damp summer. She will now face either Fran Jones or Ashlyn Krueger for a place in the semi-final, where she could meet Katie Boulter, the British No 1.
