Emma Raducanu has responded to Judy Murray’s reaction to her leaving Andy Murray high and dry by withdrawing from the Wimbledon mixed doubles.

One-time US Open winner Raducanu pulled the plug on her planned partnership with Murray, ending the Scot’s Wimbledon career after he and brother Jamie crashed out of the men’s doubles in the first round, which was followed by an emotional send off for the two-time men’s champion.

Mother Judy described Raducanu’s decision as “astonishing” on social media before making her X account private after facing a backlash, then claiming her comment was sarcastic. Raducanu priositied her own singles campaign, but was beaten in fourth round by Kiwi qualifier Lulu Sun on centre court. But the 21-year-old insisted she had no regrets and stands by her decision to pull out of the mixed doubles with Murray: “I have to prioritise myself and my singles and my body and I think it was the right decision. I stand by my decision,” she said.”

“Of course I didn’t want to take his last match away from him but at the end of the day, a lot of the players in similar situations would have done a similar thing. (He was) obviously disappointed because it was his last match. Hopefully he’ll play in the Olympics and have another farewell there.

“With every decision, people are entitled to their opinions. Of course there was a cloud around the decision, but I don’t think I would have done it any other way.

‘You have to make your own calls and prioritise yourself and especially with my history, I had to put myself first. Given how I woke up yesterday morning, it was a no-brainer.

When asked about Judy Murray;s post, Raducanu replied: “‘I’m sure she didn’t mean it”
