Euro 2024: Lukaku helps Belgium to victory

Must read

Romelu Lukaku was part of the Belgium side that defeated Romania 2-0 in Cologne to keep their chances of qualifying from Group E alive.

The Red Devils lost their opening game to Slovakia but this win over Romania sees all four sides in Group E head into the final matchday level on three points each.

Lukaku, who spent last season on loan at Roma, played the entire game as Belgium’s main striker and he played a key role in the opening goal – teeing up Youri Tielemens to score after just 73 seconds.

The forward thought he’d grabbed a goal of his own soon after but for the second game in a row, VAR ruled the strike out for offside.

However, the victory was wrapped up just 11 minutes from time as former Chelsea midfielder Kevin de Bruyne raced onto a long ball before slotting home.

Belgium face Ukraine in their final group game, knowing victory will see them progress through to the knockout stage.
