‘Evaporates into thin air’: QLD assistant’s cheeky response to sideline behaviour question

Must read

Queensland assistant Nat Myles hasn’t pulled any punches in a colourful interview on the eve of Origin II and declared star fullback Reece Walsh won’t bat an eyelid in Melbourne.

Myles was at the centre of the controversy in the series opener when he sprayed NSW debutant Joseph Suaalii for knocking out Walsh.

Suaalii was sent off for the high tackle and Myles mocked the 20-year-old as he walked off with his night over after just seven minutes.

Myles was interviewed on NRL 360 on Tuesday night and the panel asked the Maroons assistant if Walsh would alter his game due to the incident.

“We’d be silly to ask him to do something he hasn’t done before,” Myles said.

“The point for Reecey being in the side is what he’s done prior to that first game and coming into camp and what we think he can do for the team.

“So if we go and ask him to do something different, that would be quite silly coaching on our end.

“We want him to play his game, we want him to get into the game, work into it and do his bit for the team.”

Myles was also asked a convoluted question surrounding NSW coach Michael Maguire’s “glass houses” sledge of his Queensland counterpart Billy Slater.

“I want to ask about the glass houses (comment) because the fact is NSW have almost used this as a motivational thing to make out almost like they were the victims in this,” Paul Crawley started.

“I imagine privately Queensland wouldn’t feel that way because you had your fullback taken out of the game illegally after seven minutes and we all saw your reaction on the sideline.

“It’s obvious there was a genuine feeling there, I don’t imagine that just disappears.”

Myles shut down the question with an eight-word response.

“It evaporates into thin air, just like that,” he smirked.

Braith Anasta asked Myles: “Are you going to be a good boy on the sideline tomorrow night?”

“I’m always a good boy, I was actually quite hurt that they said I swear. I don’t swear,” Myles said.

“(And) truth be told Billy has got a beautiful house and there’s a lot of glass in it.”

Myles did have a serious answer for how Queensland were planning on stopping Blues fullback Dylan Edwards.

“He’s a great player, there’s no reason for us to overlook what he does for the Penrith Panthers. Everyone knows how fit he is and how much he likes to run the ball and he’s always there in cover defence,” Myles said.

“What we’re going to try and do is kick away from him and get him out of the game and hopefully he just doesn’t want to get involved.”
