‘Exceptionally rare’: Share in top stallion on Inglis Digital

A piece of Widden Stud’s Zoustar will be up for grabs next week, with breeding experts expecting the share to value the champion stallion at around the $100 million mark.

The Zoustar share is on account of Qatar Bloodstock and enables the new owners to have annual priority access to the stallion even though he is fully booked for the coming spring breeding season.

A dual Group 1-winning sprinter, Zoustar has been a sensation at Widden Stud and this season is the nation’s leading sire of winners, stakes winners and Group 1 winners.

“It will be interesting to see what the share brings,’’ Widden Stud supremo Antony Thompson said.

Bidding will open at 3pm on Friday and close from 10am next Wednesday (June 12) with some breeding experts valuing the Zoustar share at around $1.5 million which would make the stallion worth close to $100 million.

Zoustar is already the sire of 54 stakeswinners with eight individual Group 1 winners including Sunlight, Ozzmosis, Joliestar and Zougotcha.

He is the sire of 26 yearlings that have sold for $1 million or more including seven this year alone.

“Zoustar is the stallion we all dream about, his progeny is proven in both Hemispheres, he throws million dollar lot after million dollar lot at the sales and he produces Group 1 winner after Group 1 winner on the track,’’ Thompson said.

Widden Stud has set Zoustar’s service fee for the spring breeding season at $275,000 – the equal highest advertised in the country alongside I Am Invincible.

Meanwhile Thompson, a part-owner in Zougotcha, winner of the Coolmore ClassicQueen Of The Turf Stakes Group 1 double during the autumn carnival, said the outstanding mare was back in pre-training for the new season.

“I would imagine Chris (Waller, trainer) will get her ready for a race like the Winx Stakes,’’ Thompson said.
