Exclusive: Melbourne woman Elizabeth wins record-breaking jackpot in honour of her late father

EXCLUSIVE: Melbourne technology manager Elizabeth Mulhall won a history-making jackpot on Monday night’s episode of Tipping Point Australia – and best of all, it was for a wonderful cause very close to her heart.

Elizabeth, 42, applied for the game show in memory of her father Robert, who tragically passed away from motor neurone disease (MND) last year.

During the episode, she managed to secure the series’ first double win jackpot – bagging $40k in total – alongside a trip to the Manafuru resort in the Maldives.

Elizabeth told 9Entertainment she and her dad were big fans of Tipping Point, but sadly he died in June 2023 before the Australian series began airing.

“I thought, ‘Oh my God, I have to apply on behalf of dad because he would have been beside himself’,” Elizabeth said.

“My motivation was just to honour dad because it’s something that we used to do together every day. It was both because he couldn’t do it, but also because it was in memory of him. I was super excited. I pushed out my application in about five seconds.”

Elizabeth was up against worthy opponents in media student Errol and retiree Domenic. The trio were so evenly match that they ended the opening round with a three-way tie – another season first.

She and Domenic then battled it out in a close head-to-head, before Elizabeth scraped through to the jackpot round. She accepted host Todd Woodbridge’s temptation offer of four counters for $20k and a Maldives holiday, miraculously getting it over with the double counter for a mammoth $40k.

Elizabeth said she planned to use the holiday as a birthday girl’s trip with her friend Corinne and donate a portion of her prize money to MND Victoria.

“I’m also running a fundraiser to celebrate the episode and raise some money,” she explained.

“And the rest will probably go on a holiday to Italy too, because dad had wanted to go there to visit some places that he didn’t get to. So it’ll all be in celebration of those things, which is really exciting.”

Elizabeth was emotional as she reflected on how her dad would’ve reacted to her huge Tipping Point Australia win.

“He would have been absolutely beside himself, because he was always thinking of others,” she beamed.

“One of the main reasons I went on the show was because when dad first got diagnosed he really wanted to do some fundraising, as something to focus on during his illness. But unfortunately, he just got too sick and physically he couldn’t do it. So if he could see what has happened, he would’ve been absolutely beside himself.”
