Unfortunately for Brundle, the music icon rejected his interview advances not once, but twice.

Brundle was shot down by the 76-year-old initially but had hoped the second time would be the charm.

The commentator tried to nudge into position to ask May some questions, but it made for rather painful viewing.

“See if I can just get a … I don’t want to be rude or interrupt too much,” Brundle said.

“He’s got Evan there telling him about the car and about this glorious-looking Mercedes down there. We’ll try and poke around.”

Brundle continued to press for a word from May but his pursuit ended without a result.

“Brian are you up for a chat with Sky? No?” Brundle said.

“No worries, you don’t need to know anything, just nice to see you on the grid. Thank you very much, no problem at all.

“We don’t want to make life difficult for him.”

Luckily for Brundle he did manage to secure chats with the likes of Rowan Atkinson, Stuart Broad and Mo Farah.
