A Texas father’s supportive message to his daughter who was going through a break-up has won the hearts of millions online.
Fallon Thompson, 20, posted a heartfelt TikTok video on May 14 showing the lengthy text message her father Scott Thompson sent her after her now ex-girlfriend unexpectedly broke up with her.
Fallon wrote over the picture: ‘POV: You just got dumped in your driveway and your dad saw the whole thing.’
In a slideshow video that has amassed more than 18million views, Fallon showed a teary-eyed picture of herself alongside snippets of her father’s inspirational message.
She told Good Morning America: ‘After I read the first sentence, I was like, “Oh, this is something that my heart needed”. It just really made my heart soar.’
As the song TV by Billie Eilish played in the background, Fallon shared screenshots of her father’s kind and thoughtful words.
Scott said: ‘Hey baby girl…here is some perspective from your old man…I have had lots of relationships…from one-night stands, to flings, to friends w/ benefits, to girlfriends, to live-in girlfriends, and then I met your Mom.’
He continued to tell Fallon about his past relationships before he met her mother, saying that when she came into his life everything was ‘instantly different’ because he had other experiences before that.
Scott then told his daughter that what she was going through was ‘necessary’ so that she could understand who is the right fit for her in the future.
‘I can also say that even though I was broken up with, and in one instance I was cheated on, it was worth it, to get to where I am now,’ he added.
The doting father told Fallon that he was ‘heartbroken’ and felt like he was ‘destined to be alone’ when he went through rough breakups.
He then promised his daughter that she wouldn’t be alone before he gave her more meaningful advice.
‘When someone lets you know that you are not for them, deal with the pain and hurt with the knowledge that this person just gave you back the most valuable thing in the world-your time.’
He told his daughter to ‘be grateful for the experience’ and to ‘rejoice’ in knowing that she has her whole life ahead of her.
Scott then shared a metaphor with Fallon about a bull running into a storm and dealing with the harsh conditions by being brave.
‘So be the bull, and lean into the storm, embrace the suck, and let it fill you up,’ Scott told Fallon.
‘You are strong enough to endure, and very soon you will be at peace,’ he added, signing off the message with ‘Love Dad’ and a heart emoji.
Fallon explained that she and her ex-girlfriend were in a long distance relationship and that it was ‘really hard.’
Scott told Good Morning America that his main goal was making his daughter feel comforted and supported during a challenging time.
‘I knew it was really weighing hard on her so I started typing and it’s a pretty long text but it came out pretty fast,’ Scott said.
‘A few minutes later I get a text back saying, “I love you, daddy,” and I was like okay, mission accomplished, right?
‘And then you wake up in the morning and she’s like, “Dad, you went viral”,’ he added.
Fallon explained that she knew that others would benefit from her father’s kind and moving words.
‘I just felt that in that moment that those words just touched me so deeply, that I knew that other people in the world probably needed to hear that,’ Fallon said.
Scott said that he was ‘shocked’ to realize that there are a lot of people out there who don’t have someone to give them advice like his after seeing how many people were touched by his gesture.
He explained how he wasn’t close with his father and that it’s ‘always been important’ to him to be there for his children.
Fallon choked up in an interview as she described her father as her ‘bestie.’
‘We’ve always been super close growing up,’ she said.
‘She made me a dad, so the rules in my life changed when she was born,’ Scott added.
‘I don’t always have the right answers but I come from the heart and try to give the best advice I can when she comes to me with something, and be her friend and just try to support her unconditionally as she’s figuring out this really important part of her life.’
Commenters quickly flooded the video and praised the father for his kind words.
‘This is genuinely the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen,’ one wrote.
‘Well Scott you have us all crying,’ another said.
A commenter said: ‘He’s our dad now.’
‘Now this has me SOBBING,’ said another.
