Federal Court blocks further Panthers action against stood down star Taylan May

Must read

There has been a twist in the Taylan May saga, with the Panthers outside back reportedly recording a significant legal victory over the Penrith Panthers.

May, who was stood down under the NRL’s no-fault stand down policy since late May, had been at risk of being sacked from the reigning Premiers for a string of behavioural incidents dating back several years.

As previously reported on foxsports.com.au, earlier this month the 22-year-old was issued a show cause notice for a series of breaches of the club’s code of conduct, resulting in the centre fronting the Penrith board in an attempt to fight to remain at the club.

Following on from that meeting, The Daily Telegraph reported the club desired holding a second show cause hearing next week, at which they were prepared to terminate May’s deal – which was only renewed in March.

But instead, the Penrith centre received an injunction from the Federal Court, preventing the club’s hearing from proceeding and ensuring the centre remains a Panther in the meantime.

May’s injunction argued the second Penrith hearing breached his rights as a professional athlete.

Now, the young centre is expected to launch legal proceedings of his own against the club for their handling of his situation, which has the potential to impact the Panthers quest for a fourth consecutive Premiership.
