A man bitten by a sea snake off the coast of Darwin on Monday morning has been airlifted to Broome for treatment.
According to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, a CareFlight Northern Territory fishing vessel trawling in the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf, about 360 kilometres south-west of Darwin made contact with AMSA at around 9.45am (NT time) on July 15.
They informed the AMSA that a male crew member had been bitten by a sea snake and was in need of urgent medical attention.
AMSA tasked the LifeFlight rescue helicopter from Truscott Airbase in WA, which arrived at the location at 11.45am (NT time) and winched the patient from the trawler.
The AMSA Cairns-based Challenger was also on the scene to provide support.
The LifeFlight helicopter transported the crew member to Truscott, where he was met by a Royal Flying Doctor Service aircraft, for onward transfer to Broome for treatment.
Last reports confirmed the man was in a stable condition.
