Flood warnings and evacuations continue as wet weather eases in NSW

Evacuations were in place for dozens of areas along the Hawkesbury River, ranging from Agnes Banks to Lower Portland.

The State Emergency Service was notified of 297 incidents overnight and performed 13 flood rescues.

There are still more than 30 watch and act warnings and further advice-level warnings across the state.

At 6.30am today there are still 12 emergency-level warnings in place.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) had a “minor to major flood warning” in place for both the Hawkesbury and Nepean rivers.

Several other rivers, including for the Shoalhaven River, Hastings River, Cooks River, and St Georges Basin, had minor flood warnings in place.

Flooding has forced Windsor Road to close in both directions between Pitt Town Road at McGraths Hill and Macquarie Street.

Pitt Town Road is also closed between Wolseley Road and Saunders Road and in a few other spots along the stretch of roadway.

Some spots that were closed yesterday remain closed this morning, including the Richmond Bridge at Richmond, Yarramundi Bridge at Agnes Banks, Audley Weir in the Royal National Park and the Menangle Bridge at Menangle Park.

The Illawarra Highway has been reopened at Albion Park between the M1 Princess Highway and Tongarra Road. 

However, in some good news, the BoM cancelled a severe weather warning, impacting millions across the Illawarra and South Coast forecast districts.

The weather is set to clear over the King’s Birthday long weekend, with Saturday set to be cloudy and showers mostly along the coastal fringe.

Sunday and Monday are both forecast to be mostly sunny with temperatures around 19 and 20 degrees and the rain is set to return briefly on Tuesday.
