Tributes are flowing for 18-year-old Nick Campo, who’s being remembered for his kindness and sporting talent.
“Our lives have been ripped apart, 18 years old, a future with so much hope taken away,” his father, Daniel, said on social media.
Nick marked that milestone birthday only two days ago.
Late last night, he was one of five teenagers traveling in a ute on Farrington Road in North Lake when it rolled late last night, hitting a black jeep on the other side of the road.
Inside that vehicle were a man and a woman in their 20s who were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Sitting in the ute alongside Nick were two of his teammates from the South Fremantle Football club, as well as the seventeen-year-old driver and one other young man.
Premier Roger Cook said the tragedy was “another reminder for all of us to take extra care.”
The tragedy is being felt across the football community.
South Fremantle CEO Cameron Britt said “we are a club in deep shock”.
In Kalgoorlie, where Campo spent his childhood, his former club described him as “a popular friend to many” with a “life full of promise that was taken way too soon”.
9News understands first responders included team mates of the boys, who were travelling in a car behind the ute when it crashed.
Those players are leaning on each other as they come to terms with the loss of a mate.
