Former Collingwood player charged after fatal crash in WA

A former Collingwood player has been charged after a fatal crash in Coolijarloo, Western Australia, which killed two women in their 80s.

A passenger train crash in the Czech Republic has left four people dead and 26 injured.

The train which was en route to Ukraine collided with a freight train in the city of Pardubice on Wednesday.

More than 300 passengers are believed to have been on board.

Prime Minister Petr Fiala has offered his condolences on social media calling the crash a ‘great disaster’.

The crash occurred about 9am on Friday and involved two cars and a northbound white Volvo road train towing two trailers.

WA Police will allege Shannon John Cox, 38, was behind the wheel of a Toyota Prado which was travelling south when it collided with a Suzuki Ignis hatchback travelling north.

The three-vehicle collision occurred near the intersection of Waddi Road.

The crash left two women in their 80s dead and a 12-year-old girl injured.

The 82-year-old driver and her 83-year-old passenger both died at the scene.

Neither Mr Cox nor the driver of the white Volvo truck were injured.

Five St John ambulances and two RAC Rescue helicopters were deployed, but the helicopters were stood down after it was found they were not required.

Police have since charged Mr Cox with two counts of dangerous driving causing death.

He appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday afternoon and was remanded in custody.

Mr Cox will return to court on June 18.

He did not apply for bail.

The former Collingwood player retired in 2009 after 25 appearances with the Magpies.
