TIGERS SPEARHEAD STRUNG AGAIN
After returning from a hamstring injury for Dustin Martin’s 300th game in Round 14, Tom Lynch has suffered another soft-tissue setback.
According to Fox Footy reporter David Zita on Monday afternoon, scans confirmed a minor strain to his opposite hamstring to his previous injury, with Lynch exiting against Hawthorn with ‘general soreness’.
Zita said Lynch is expected to miss Richmond’s next two matches — against Carlton this Sunday and Fremantle in Perth in Round 17.
Prior to returning against the Hawks, Lynch had played just three games for the season after first injuring his hamstring in the club’s Round 3 win over Sydney.
The 31-year-old also missed the vast majority of last season — appearing just four times — after breaking his foot in Round 4.
The Tigers are expected to comment officially on Monday regarding Lynch’s injury.
‘I’M NOT SURE’: VETERAN CAT’S INJURY MYSTERY LINGERS
Tom Hawkins exited late in Geelong’s Friday night loss to Carlton after inauspiciously injuring his foot. He was seen on crutches post-game.
While the Cats are yet to disclose the details of his ailment, Hawkins spoke on Monday afternoon.
“I’ve actually been fine,” he said. “I’m always pretty optimistic about life in general. Once I find out the information, I’ll sort of put together a little bit of a plan.
“I can respect that there’s interest with (my) age and current form, but that (my future) is far from my mind at the moment.
“I’m worried about finding out the information, putting together a plan and working towards that. I’m pretty optimistic on what lies ahead.
“But look, it was just a movement that I that I do every day and training and playing.
“(I) just put my foot under a bit of load, I don’t know. I don’t think there was necessarily much in the actual incident other than to say I do it all the time and it’s not something that’s new. Just maybe a twist or turn or an uneven part of the surface, I’m not sure.”
Channel 9 reporter Tom Morris shared his latest intel on SEN on Monday morning.
“This is a really concerning one,” Morris said. “It’s been kept quite secret over the past 24-48 hours.
“He had scans on his foot on Saturday, and it’s Monday morning and we still don’t know exactly what the prognosis is.
“There are people very close to Hawkins who are extremely concerned that his season might be over, and if his season’s over, is his career over as well?
“(The Cats) have been seeking second and third opinions — we should know today exactly what’s wrong.”
The 359-gamer has kicked 796 goals and is a free agent at the end of the season.
Geelong is expected to provide an official injury update on Hawkins on Monday afternoon.
SORE FREO SKIPPER AWAITING SCAN RESULTS
Fremantle captain Alex Pearce suffered a left forearm injury after landing awkwardly late in the third quarter of the Dockers’ win over Gold Coast on Sunday.
Pearce, jostling with Gold Coast’s Sam Day, appeared to hyper-extend his arm in what was described in commentary as a “nasty” incident. He was substituted out of the game shortly after.
The Dockers are yet to share the details of their captain’s injury, with Seven Perth reporter Ryan Daniels on Monday confirming Pearce was to undergo scans.
SUPERSTAR SWAN ‘FINE’ AFTER INJURY ‘SPECULATION’
Despite suspicions of a minor shoulder concern following Saturday’s win over GWS, mercurial Swans hybrid Isaac Heeney is said to be ‘fine’, per Fox Sports’ Drew Jones.
Heeney notched 23 disposals and 10 clearances in Sydney’s 27-point win over its cross-town rivals and has been an absolute force for the star-studded Swans in 2024.
Sydney’s next opponent is Fremantle at the SCG on Saturday afternoon, with the gun 28-year-old fully expected to suit up. Heeney has played in all 14 Swans outings this season.
