Gadsden Times All-Area: Mallory Brooks and Eli Edge headline boys and girls soccer teams

Southside’s Mallory Brooks and Westbrook Christian’s Eli Edge are the Gadsden Times Golfers of the Year and headline the all-area teams.

Two area teams made it to the state tournament: Westbrook Christian brought home its second straight state title while Hokes Bluff girls joined them at states. The Gadsden Times all-area team features four first team golfers with a few honorable mentions.

Here are the Gadsden Times all-area golf teams:

Gadsden Times All area boys golf team

Golfer of the Year: Eli Edge, Westbrook Christian

Senior

Why chosen: The Warriors repeated as state champions and a major reason was the consistent play of Edge. His best score on the year was 70 and he shot four over at states to finish in second place. He was the Gadsden area champion and was low medalist at most Warrior matches.

Justin Lovoy, Southside

Junior

Why chosen: Another one of the top golfers in the area, Lovoy had a best round of 69 and finished in fifth place in the sub regional round. Lovoy won the Coosa Classic at Silver Lakes.

JD Berndt, Westbrook Christian

Junior

Why chosen: Berndt had a season best score of 70 with a fourth place finish at states with an eight over performance.

Jayce Hutchens, Susan Moore

Senior

Why chosen: Hutchens had a strong day at the state tournament, finishing in 11th place and had a season best round of 70.

Honorable mention: Jaxson Bush, Etowah; JP Groat, Fort Payne; Cove McHugh, Westbrook Christian; Nolan Terrell, Westbrook Christian

Gadsden Times All area girls golf team

Golfer of the Year: Mallory Brooks, Southside

Senior

Why chosen: The Coosa Classic and the Gadsden area tournament champion had a best score of 73 on the year. She placed fourth at sub-state.

Emma Jones, Boaz

Why chosen: Jones was the best golfer on the Boaz team that made it to sub-state, where Jones shot an 80, but her best on the year was a 78.

Makayla Bearden, Hokes Bluff

8th grader

Why chosen: Bearden helped to lead the Eagles to the state tournament and shot an 18-over there. Her best score of the year was a 78.

Kate Bowman, Westbrook Christian

Senior

Why chosen: Bowman shot a season best 84 during the sub-state round.

Honorable mention: Molly Griffith, Fort Payne; Kenley Staats, Hokes Bluff
