CHINA. Global Premium Duty Free (GDF) Plaza has launched a series of promotional activities in Hainan this month ahead of the forthcoming summer holidays.

The GDF Duty Free Shopping Carnival includes events and activities such as the Poetry and Wine Youth Festival Dongpo Garden Party, the GDF Plaza Dongpo Tavern and a liquor brand tour. The retailer said these activities will offer consumers a new wave of diverse duty-free shopping experiences unique to Hainan.

The poetry and wine garden party activities began in June, offering exclusive vouchers and duty-free shopping benefits. Creating a diverse consumption scenario through the ‘duty free + cultural tourism’ model, the garden party’s ‘Dongpo ancient-style float’ made its grand debut at GDF Plaza stores on 6 July.

Over 130 types of spirits in seven major categories will feature in exclusive promotional activities, including renowned Chinese liquor brands Maotai, Wuliangye, Luzhou Laojiao, Fenjiu and Langjiu. Each week GDF Plaza will launch a ‘Dongpo Summer Special’, offering liquor tasting coupons with purchase.

In addition to the Chinese spirits portfolio, international liquor brands such as Hennessy, Martell, Rémy Martin and Macallan will also feature.

Promotions including week-long liquour specials, ‘liquor passport’ check-ins, shopping points redemption, bottle ring toss lotteries and a liquor brand tour will provide consumers with a refreshing summer experience, stimulate spendings and boost tourism within the province, the retailer said.

A GDF Plaza spokesperson commented: “This July we have created a themed shopping scenario for exploring the world of liquor, offering consumers richer shopping selections and high-quality service, and allowing citizens and tourists to enjoy new duty-free shopping benefits.”

The summer holiday shopping craze has begun, with promotions and activations available to visitors

With the forthcoming summer holidays, GDF Plaza has emphasised its focus on interactive parent-child activities including brand promotions aimed at those travelling with family.

The retailer will join forces with the group’s sports centre and Mova Mall this month to launch a series of interactive sports events for families. Against the background of the ‘duty free + sports tourism’ model, these activities aim to further diversify the island’s offshore travel retail scene, the retailer said.

During this period, GDF Plaza will actively focus on the new ‘duty free + cultural tourism’ travel retail model, creating various exquisite displays, brand benefits and fun interactive activities.

“This will fully enhance consumers’ duty-free shopping experiences and satisfaction, drive consumption and boost the summer tourism market.”

The spokesperson continued: “It will also enhance the attraction of offshore duty-free shopping, promote high-quality economic development in Hainan, furthering construction of the island as an international tourism consumption centre.” ✈️
