Gerard Healy’s 10 All-Australian certainties at the midway point of the 2024 season

Must read

Note: Gerard Healy is no longer an All-Australian selector.

It was an important afternoon on Tuesday because the All-Australian selectors sat down to meet for the very first time.

The usual process is to go through each of the teams and get one selector to put down the maybes of that team and then nominate any certainties that they think, that if the side was picked today, they’d be absolutely in the team before opening it up to broader discussion.

At the end of the season, being a certainty at the halfway mark counts for plenty in a 50/50 battle, even if recency bias at the end of the year is one of the most powerful forces in the selection game.

So, who are the certainties right now at the end of Round 11? That’s the question that was being asked at AFL headquarters.

Here are my 10 certainties and there are probably plenty more.

I haven’t got a forward in the 10 because I just can’t pick between half a dozen of them. You could go for Jake Waterman, Jesse Hogan, Charlie Curnow…

The 10 midway certainties:

1 – Isaac Heeney (Sydney)
2 – Nick Daicos (Collingwood)
3 – Caleb Serong (Fremantle)
4 – Zach Merrett (Essendon)
5 – Chad Warner (Sydney)
6 – Max Gawn (Melbourne)
7 – Errol Gulden (Sydney)
8 – Jeremy McGovern (West Coast)
9 – Izak Rankine (Adelaide)
10 – Marcus Bontempelli (Western Bulldogs)
