Gex Trilogy gets late 2024 preorder window

Must read

Limited Run Games’ Gex Trilogy, which collects Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko, officially has an Autumn 2024 [Northern Hemipshere] preorder window, suggesting a full release later in the year.

A new trailer aired during the LRG 2024 showcase confirmed fans will soon be able to preorder the game for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch, likely in both digital and physical formats. For now, Limited Run Games has not detailed what a physical edition may comprise, but we do know what to expect of the digital release.

What is included in Gex Trilogy?

As detailed, Gex Trilogy will feature three game ports refined for the Carbon Engine, with “extras and quality of life improvements to bring Gex back into prime time!” New features include visual smoothing, a rewind option, and the ability to save anywhere.

For now, that’s about all we know about the re-release of the Gex games.

There’s still plenty of questions about which versions of the game will be included – and this is important to address, as there are regional differences (content, voice acting) between versions of some Gex games, and also console differences.

With Gex: Enter the Gecko, for example, the PlayStation One and Nintendo 64 versions of the game are significantly different, with some exclusive levels for both consoles.

Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko was also lightly censored for Nintendo 64, as Nintendo seemingly aimed to keep the kid-friendly appeal of the game, while removing the sexual tension between Gex and Agent Xtra (who is played in live action by model and actress Marliece Andrada).

Given Gex Trilogy is described as the “definitive edition” of the Gex games, we can assume the collection will include all levels and features of the original trilogy, with included FMV cutscenes and potentially those previously console-exclusive levels, too.

For now, Limited Run Games is yet to get into the nitty-gritty of what Gex Trilogy will include, but we’re likely to hear much more as its preorder window opens. Stay tuned for more news about the upcoming game, and what to expect when it finally launches.
