Golfers across Singapore were saddened when the Marina Bay Golf Course shuttered its doors at the end of June 2024. It was among the few remaining public courses in Singapore where a golfer, without being a member of any club, could walk in and tee it up. It also boasted a large driving range where new golfers could learn to swing and seasoned players could hone their skills.
Meanwhile, there were fears that another public facility, the Mandai Executive Golf Course (MEGC) would also shut down. However, the Government decided to extend its lease by two years to December 2026. This was a welcome decision and met with huge public approval. But it has also been decided that the MEGC will be repurposed. That move will significantly impact the golf community.
