Android users will benefit from seven new features, announced by Google last week.

Users can now edit messages after they are sent, share hotspots, switch between devices on calls, remix emojis and more.

“With Google Messages you can say goodbye to the asterisk and edit messages after they’re sent,” the technology giant said in its announcement.

“Tap and hold a sent RCS message to edit typos, add missing words or clarify what you mean — up to 15 minutes after a message is sent.”

This feature has been available for Apple iPhone users since the release of iOS 16 in 2022.

The Apple version also requires users to make edits within 15 minutes, and can only be used five times.

Google did not outline any limits to edits capable of being made within 15 minutes.

Android users will soon be able to connect their Android tablet or Chromebook to their phone’s hotspot without typing in a password.

Users can also change devices in the middle of a Google Meet call by tapping the Cast icon.

Another new feature announced is the ability to combine emojis in what Google has dubbed its “Emoji Kitchen”.

Users can also now control their most-used smart devices from their home screens, by adding the Google Home Favourites widget to their home screen.

This widget is available to anyone who signs up for Public Preview.

Users can also control their smart home devices through the Google Home Favourites function on their Wear OS smartwatch.

“Unlock the doors, dim the lights or change the temperature before you arrive home with just a tap on the wrist,” Google said.

Digital car key is now also available on select MINI models and will expand soon to select Mercedes-Benz and Polestar vehicles.

“You’ll be able to lock, unlock and start your car with just your phone, or securely share your digital car key with family and friends,” Google said.
