“These five provinces have the most (number of) residents exposed to online gambling. Based on data from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK), the number one on the list is West Java,” Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs and Chair of the task force, Hadi Tjahjanto, stated on Tuesday.
As the province with the largest number of online gamblers, Tjahjanto remarked that 535,644 people in the province had practiced online gambling, with the transaction value reaching Rp3.8 trillion (US$224 million) in West Java.
In second place with the highest number of online gamblers is DKI Jakarta, with 238,568 players and a transaction value of Rp2.3 trillion (US$135 million).
“Number three is Central Java, with the number of online gambling players reaching 201,963 people and total money circulating from the business reaching Rp1.3 trillion (US$76 million),” he remarked.
East Java Province ranks fourth, with a total of 135,227 online gamblers and a transaction value of Rp1.051 trillion (US$62 million).
Coming in fifth place is Banten Province, with 150,302 online gamblers and Rp1.022 trillion (US$60 million) worth of money circulating, Tjahjanto remarked.
Apart from the provincial level, the minister also outlined five districts and cities with the highest number of online gamblers, namely West Jakarta City, with a total transaction value of Rp792 billion (US$46 million); Bogor City, with Rp612 billion (US$36 million); Bogor District, Rp567 billion (US$33 million); East Jakarta, Rp480 billion (US$28 million); and North Jakarta City, Rp430 billion (US$25 million).
