ISTANBUL (Türkiye) – Dzanan Musa has company in the record books of FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup history as Guinea’s Abdouramane Toure tied the mark for the most points in a single game with 50 against China in the Classification 13-14 game.
Unfortunately for Toure, the performance came in a loss as Guinea were defeated 105-101. The forward made 21 of 27 shots including 6 of 11 three-pointers and 2 of 2 free throws. The 21 made field goals is a new record, topping the previous mark of 18 by Musa. The Bosnia and Herzegovina international star set the scoring record in the Classification 9-16 at the 2016 U17 World Cup with 50 points against Chinese Taipei.
“It feels good. I wish we would have gotten that W. It would have felt way better. It means a lot, but it doesn’t mean as much as I wish it did with the win,” said Toure, who said his highest scoring output in high school in the United States was 49. “I am happy to get 50 finally.”
Toure is playing in his first FIBA tournament and achieving this in a Guinea jersey makes it all the more special.
“It means a lot to represent where I am I from and have the most points in this event’s history. To represent my country and where my family is from,” he said.
Toure also chipped in 2 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal for an efficiency of 51 – which is the third-best in history. The only two players with a more efficient game were Isaac Humphries of Australia with 56 in 2014 and Mali’s Oumar Ballo with 53 in 2018.
