Former footy star Ben Cousins has honestly reviewed his first performance on Dancing With The Stars, saying it was “hard to watch” his dancefloor debut.
Appearing on Mix94.5’s Pete & Kymba for Breakfast on Monday, Cousins reflected on the nerve-wracking experience.
“Whatever they did with the editing, no matter how clever they got, it was going to be almost impossible to put a positive spin on my first episode!” he said.
“It was hard to watch last night because I knew what was coming!”
Admitting he watched his performance in the company of his sister’s family, he still “found it hard to watch”.
“I got up, and I was cooking a steak when my dance came on, and I was watching from the kitchen, but I had to look away a couple of times!” Cousins revealed.
Told to “tuck his bum in” by the judges, the 7NEWS Sports Presenter said he’s become a little self-conscious by the feedback he and dance partner Siobhan Power received.
“I can honestly say there is not a shop window that I don’t walk past today and still don’t do a double take to see how my bum’s looking! I’ve become very self-conscious!”
Not to be deterred, the effervescent Power dialled in and only had positive things to say about the former Eagle after their Foxtrot yielded a lowly 14 points out of 30 on the night.
“I was so happy watching that back last night; that was the first time we’d seen the footage.
“I came off the floor feeling so great, but to actually see it, and see Ben perform it, and dance the footwork … He danced everything — he did not miss a step, he didn’t miss a beat!” she said.
Appreciative of his partner’s support, Cousins said a “cuddle” and words of encouragement from Power went a long way.
Dancing With The Stars continues 7.00pm Sunday on Channel 7 and 7plus.
