Will the emergence of Josh Treacy change Fremantle’s trade period pursuit of Logan McDonald?
Club great Paul Hasleby thinks it just might.
Treacy has blossomed as a fourth-year key forward, kicking 24 goals after 12 games to lead the club’s goal kicking.
Pair him with rising young forward Jye Amiss and ruck duo Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson and Freo has all the tall timber they need.
“The forward line is looking good on the back of the emergence of Josh Treacy. He could be the most improved player in the competition,” Hasleby told SEN WA’s The Run Home.
“He’s having an unbelievable season. He’s kicked 24 goals, six behinds. He doesn’t miss. He’s improved on every part of his game. He’s kicking well inside 50, he’s putting on pressure, taking big marks, providing outlets. I didn’t think he would be this player and it solves some problems.
“Maybe it’s prevented them from going down the wrong track with Logan McDonald. They’ve got three first-round picks and St Kilda’s second-round pick.
“It’s going to change the direction of the list management profile of Fremantle. It was all about Logan McDonald – who hasn’t committed to the Swans just yet.
“But Fremantle doesn’t need him. They’ve got Amiss, Treacy, Jackson. The improvement from Treacy has been sensational.
“The emergence of Josh Treacy, the investment in Sean Darcy, you’ve got Luke Jackson as well – Do you go back to the draft? Do you go get Liam Baker? Do you have a crack at Chad Warner?”
“Fremantle has those four early picks. Do you use them to do a swap for future firsts knowing Chad Warner could be more available next year?”
If this season ended after Round 12, the Dockers would go into the draft with picks 10, 13, 15 and 24.
Treacy’s ascension so far this year has him sitting equal eighth on the AFL’s goal kicking list.
