A Hawthorn contingent led by coach Sam Mitchell and player acquisition manger Jarryd Roughead reportedly met with Giants utility Harry Perryman in Sydney last week as part of an attempted “raid” on the free agent.
The 25-year old is un unrestricted free agent at season’s end and has had interest from multiple clubs including the two South Australian teams as he weighs up his future.
Speaking on Channel 9’s Footy Classified, veteran journalist Caroline Wilson revealed the Hawks’ bold bid to poach Perryman, having tabled him a five-year deal worth around $800,000 per season.

“The Hawthorn vie-captain (Dylan Moore) was part of a contingent that performed a raid into Sydney last week, led by Sam Mitchell and their free agency man Jarryd Roughead,” she said.
“It was a raid reminiscent of when Travis Boak was attempted to be raided by the Geelong group. That wasn’t successful and this may or may not be successful.
“The (Hawthorn) offer is five years around $800,000 a year for someone who’s essentially is a role player at GWS but could be a lot more at a weaker club without such a good midfield.
“At least one of the two Adelaide clubs are still in it, so is Essendon. Perryman likes Sydney and his partner plays for their netball team.”
Herald Sun reporter Jon Ralph revealed earlier this year on Fox Footy’s Midweek Tackle the Giants’ offer is five years worth roughly $650,000.
Perryman said he was trying to block out the external noise around his future and anticipates movement on his contract dealings soon.

“It’s been interesting. I’ve never gone through this too much before. It’s a pretty boring answer but I try to block all that stuff out and that’s why I pay my manager so he can look after that,” Perryman told AFL Media.
“Up in Sydney it’s easy as you’re kind of away from it all. Hopefully something can happen pretty soon over the next couple of weeks or month but if not we’ll just try to keep playing good footy.
“My manager is always in contact with the club and trying to sort stuff out so he’s working bloody hard.”
Perryman, a Giants Academy product and former first-round pick, finished third in GWS’ best and fairest in 2020. He’s played 119 AFL games since making his debut in 2017.

However speaking on Channel 9’s Footy Classified, veteran journalist Caroline Wilson said the Tigers weren’t entertaining trades for Daniel.
“The Gold Coast Suns know Daniel Rioli will not be traded (under any circumstances). That’s what I’m told,” she said.
A three-time premiership player, Daniel has played 175 games for Richmond since making his debut in 2016.
