If Cormac Izuchukwu ever gets a chance to stop and reflect on the roller-coaster journey that has led him to starting a URC quarter-final for Ulster against Leinster at the Aviva Stadium this evening, he will be able to pinpoint a few sliding-doors moments.

Firstly, there was his mother Catriona Dooley’s (a relative of legendary hurlers Johnny, Joe and Billy) decision to leave London for Offaly, initially to her hometown of Kilcormac before moving to Tullamore, when Cormac, whose father is Nigerian, was eight.
